  1. I took a software expertise test and when I exit I get the error message "Cannot find applicant's work to score."

  2. You probably have not printed your test document to the TapDance® printer driver. If you have installed the printer driver, then the setting for the "File Name of Applicants Work to Score" is not properly specified. If you have not installed the TapDance® printer driver, refer to the installation instructions in your Test Package manual.

  3. I typed some random data into a test, and I get a gross word count of 0 and only 1 error.

  4. You have to type in exactly what is on the master document in order for the scoring engine to effectively compare what you type. Because TapDance® is looking for a perfect match, it will reflect 0 words typed and count the entire document as one error.

  5. I installed TapDance®, and when I try to take a test, I cannot find a test to administer.

  6. You have installed the base unit, now, you need to install, the individual test packs.

    RETURN TO TOP OF PAGE

  7. How do I convert a document I created in a word processing program into a test master document?

  8. You need to print the document you created to the designated TapDance® printer driver, which writes it to a file named Taptest.txt. You convert the Taptest.txt file into a master document. See converting a document in the Test Package manual.

  9. A test result has an error marked on a word that is spelled correct, why does it have square brackets ( [ ] ) around it?

  10. Square brackets ( [ ] ) appear around text that is missing from the document. The applicant did not actually type the word(s) within the square brackets. The program printed it there to show what was omitted and should have been typed. This is counted as an error.

  11. How many total fields are there in the Data Entry test that comes with the program?

  12. A total of 266.

    RETURN TO TOP OF PAGE

  13. Are errors that are corrected, while taking the test, counted in the number of keystrokes?

  14. Only the final test document is evaluated. If the applicant made errors which were corrected during the test, they are not counted.

    RETURN TO TOP OF PAGE

  15. How do I exit a test that I have begun before completing it?

  16. On any window that you are in, there is a Title bar; a Title Bar is usually a different color border at the top of the window. The Title Bar usually contains the program name. If you click on the Title Bar, a system password box will appear. If you initially set up TapDance® to have a password, enter it and click OK. If you did not set up a password, click OK, and you will be returned to the administering screen.

  17. How do I view an applicant's saved test score?

  18. Go into the Setup Test icon. On the menu bar, select the Document option, then select Open, and then Applicants Scored Document (*.scr). Use the default windows open box to select the desired test.

  19. An applicant spelled a word correctly, but the test continually scores incorrect.

  20. This probably means that there is a misspelled word in the Master document. You will need to edit the Master file to correct the error. Go into the Setup Test icon. On the menu bar, select the Document option, then select Open, and then select Master(*.mas). Correct the misspelled word, save, and exit

  21. While installing a Software Expertise test, a box appeared asking me to "Specify Software Application Path and File." What do I enter?

  22. You have to specify the location of the executable file (not the *.lnk file) which starts the software application (ex: MS Word, Excel, WordPerfect, etc.) you are installing. You need to have the programs available to be run from this computer. If you have problems locating the executable file, consult your local Information Systems personnel.

  25. None of the applicants can finish the Data Entry test in the allotted time, and the questions that they do not finish are counted as errors. What can I do?

  26. You can increase the time limit for the test, or remove the time limit setting from the test. RETURN TO TOP OF PAGE

  29. How do I know who passed and who failed the test?

  30. No one passes or fails, their score is indicative of their ability to test in this uniform environment. This score should then be used to compare against the remaining applicants to see who best exhibits the skills needed for the position applied for.

  31. I have a lot of tests installed but whenever I open TapDance® only one test is administered.

  32. This is an option whose setting is in the Setup Test icon on the Administer menu, under Test To Administer. In this box you have the option "At End of Test" set to "Applicant Takes." Whichever test is listed in this field will be the test that is automatically started when you enter TapDance®.

  33. The test opens properly, scores properly and is set to autoprint, but it does not print at all.

  34. Verify that the default printer in the TapDance® printer setup is the default windows printer, and not a TapDance® printer driver

    RETURN TO TOP OF PAGE

  35. I print to the TapDance® printer driver and nothing is printed.

  36. The TapDance® printer drivers are not supposed to print out a physical piece of paper. They are designed to convert the typed data from a software application format into a format that TapDance® can read and score against the master document.

  37. I forgot my password.

  38. Call Customer Support, and after verification, they will provide you with an override code.

  39. An applicant took the typing test and most of it was marked as an error.

  40. Verify that the applicant was typing from the appropriate document. They also may have typed side B first and their test is compared to side A.

    RETURN TO TOP OF PAGE

  41. I was taking a Word Processing test and I accidentally hit a button and now I am stuck on a blank screen that shows a box that says "software expertise test in progress."

  42. The screen for the software application being tested on has been minimized, but the test is still being administered. Look on your Start bar at the bottom of the screen. Locate the button/icon for the software application being tested on and click it. You can also use the (Alt-Tab) keys pressed together to toggle between active programs; and then stop at the software application you're testing on.

    RETURN TO TOP OF PAGE

  43. I print to the TapDance® printer, and it does not print. What's wrong with it?

  44. The TapDance® printer drivers do not print out physical pieces of paper. This printer driver writes a file to the TapDance® program from the word processing package the applicant is testing in (MS Word, WordPerfect etc).

    RETURN TO TOP OF PAGE

  45. What does the curly braces ( { } ) around a word mean?

  46. French braces ( { } ) appear around text that is incorrect or that should not be in the document. For example, you might see "{roange}" in a corrected test document, indicating that the applicant misspelled the word "orange."

    RETURN TO TOP OF PAGE

  47. What does the square braces ([ ]) around a word mean?

  48. Square brackets ([ ]) appear around text that is missing from the document. For example, you would see "[orange]" in the corrected test document if the applicant skipped the word "orange" while typing the test.

    RETURN TO TOP OF PAGE

  49. I have a typing test that displays a score for Percent correct, how do I interpret this number?

  50. Percent correct is the percentage of the applicant's keystrokes that were correct. This information is displayed for data entry/multiple choice tests only. If you have it selected as an option on a typing test, remove it.

    RETURN TO TOP OF PAGE

  51. I have a Mismatch message in my document, what does it mean?

  52. Mismatch indicates an error such as a misspelled word, an incorrect number of spaces between words, or the transposition of two words.

    RETURN TO TOP OF PAGE

  53. How does TapDance® score?

  54. When an applicant types their document, that document is compared to an appropriate master document, which has been verified correct. The applicant's score is based on the number of differences between the two documents. Each difference is counted as an error.

    RETURN TO TOP OF PAGE

  55. A line the applicant typed is correct and formatted as bold, why is there a '\B' in front of the bold type, and it is counted as an error?

  56. This usually indicates the spaces between the words have been formatted as bold. The master document does not have the spaces between bold words formatted as bold.

    RETURN TO TOP OF PAGE

  57. How do I view an applicant's scored document that has been saved?

  58. In the TapDance® Setup Test icon, on the menu bar, select the option for Document and Open. There is an option under Open for 'Applicant's Scored Document (*.scr)'.
